Abstract
A meditation on the postcolonial present; No Country by Charlie Samuya Veric reveals an exile who finds himself between the past and the future. Here is a Filipino expatriate who arrives in South Africa more than two decades after the fall of apartheid. With such tenderness and breadth of vision; he describes his days in another country: the visitation of birds; the turning of seasons; and the anxiety of dislocations. So too he explores the disasters of history; providing maps for the potential of emancipated life. Revealing an exile who becomes a witness; the book is an ode and record of decolonization the way we live it now.
