Abstract

This paper examines the theological and spiritual meaning of the vow of obedience in religious life through the teachings of Pope John Paul II. It presents obedience as Christ-centered, Trinitarian, ecclesial, and pneumatological—understood as a free and loving response modeled on Christ. Reframed as dialogue grounded in listening, discernment, and mutual trust, obedience is shown to foster authentic freedom and communion. By integrating theology with lived religious practice, the study highlights obedience as a liberating, relational, and Spirit-led path that deepens personal dignity, communal fidelity, and mission.
