Abstract
This article examines the promise of obedience in the rite of ordination to the presbyterate in light of the ecclesiology of Lumen Gentium, particularly its teaching that priests are “prudent cooperators of the episcopal order.” It interprets priestly obedience as rooted in the presbyter’s sharing in the priesthood and mission of the bishop. By examining the historical development of the ordination rite and applying the principle of lex orandi, lex credendi, the study clarifies obedience as cooperative participation in episcopal ministry. Priestly obedience is thus presented as a relational commitment enabling priests to serve as collaborators in the Church’s pastoral mission.
