Abstract

This paper is an analytical reflection on the insights Catholic Social Teaching (CST) has to offer on the West Philippine Sea Dispute. It discusses (1) an overview of the maritime dispute, mainly from the Philippine perspective, (2) the disputed legal status of the West Philippine Sea in local and international law, (3) the state of coral reefs in the South China Sea, particularly in the West Philippine Sea, (4) CST on the environment, especially concerning water, and (5) some practical and conceptual avenues to enrich the conversation.
