Abstract

This article examines the development of synodality in the Catholic Church by surveying key ecclesial documents from the Second Vatican Council to the preparatory texts of the ongoing Synod on Synodality. It analyzes how the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has embodied synodal principles even prior to the present synodal process. The study also highlights challenges encountered in practicing synodality, particularly during debates surrounding the Reproductive Health Bill. By reflecting on these experiences, the article underscores the ongoing call for the Church to become a listening community capable of responding faithfully to emerging pastoral and social issues.
