Abstract

The paper examines the boundary between the Church’s duty to form consciences and improper partisan activity by clergy. Analyzing the 2022 Philippine national elections, the author distinguishes “political rejection” from “political endorsement” to assess clerical involvement. He notes a troubling gap between church leaders and ordinary citizens in judging candidates, weakening the Church’s prophetic voice, and argues that active clerical campaigning risks conflating ecclesial authority with partisan advocacy.
