Abstract

This article views dialogue as a way to bridge the gap between the Catholic Church and the State in Vietnam, created by centuries of colonization and conflict and resurfacing periodically as tensions with the Communist government, despite the steady growth of the local Church in the country. Mining the FABC documents for its rich insights on the theology of dialogue, he proposes it as a viable approach characterized by three foundational elements: embracing dialogue not only as a methodology but as an approach or overall disposition, maintaining a humble attitude of receptivity and openness, and trusting in the immanence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
