Abstract

This historical study recounts early missionary efforts in Mindanao by Jesuit and Recollect missionaries during the Spanish period. It provides a glimpse of the different challenges faced by the missionaries as well as the various ways by which they tried to respond, including not so “religious” strategies such as building forts and diplomacy.
