Abstract
Twenty-five years have passed since the celebration of the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II), an event th at marked the Philippine Catholic Church's reception of Vatican II and the postconciliar documents. It appears that much of the context in which PCP II to ok place remains the same today. Hence, its teachings about the life and mission of the Catholic Church, particularly its theology of the laity, still remain relevant in the contemporary Philippines. PCP M's theology of the laity considers the laity not as mere passive recipients of the gospel but as active agents of evangelization. It is precisely in the secular character of their lives th at they are called to evangelize. Particularly relevant in the Philippine context is the laity's role in social transformation. While the laity have grown in their participation in mission, much remains to be done in order for them fully to realize the role that is truly theirs with in the church and in society.
