Abstract
Excerpt: The theater scene in Metro Manila, so prolific and variegated in 2016, segued into 2017 hardly missing a beat that an aficionado ran the risk of becoming blasé over the quantity and quality of offerings. The year’s output pretty much confirmed a seasonal pattern seen in previous years, with the scene starting to recover from a post-holiday stupor in the latter half of January, hitting its first peak in February and March, experiencing something of a slowdown for the summer months from April to June for the major theater companies (but continued and even heightened activity among campus groups, probably related to the impending close of the school year), starting a revived pace in July (headlined by a de facto kick-off by the Virgin Labfest and a couple of big-budget musicals), and going full throttle from August all the way till the first half of December, with the peak from September to October.
