Abstract

Excerpt: One hundred years ago, my grandfather Cesar Legaspi was born. He would one day become National Artist for Visual Arts, one of the Thirteen Moderns, head of the Saturday Group for 16 years, and a pioneer of Philippine Neorealism. He painted tirelessly, producing a body of work that spanned decades, from World War II to the late ’90s, using his oils and pallet knife to show the Filipino’s struggle and pain in a rapidly changing world.
