Perspectives in the Arts and Humanities Asia
Abstract
Excerpt: In recent years, Akashic Books’ long running noir series of place based short story collections has moved beyond the United States, acquiring global ambitions. Southeast Asia is one of the latest areas of focus, with Manila Noir and Singapore Noir appearing in the last two years, perhaps as a move against local initiatives such as Fixi Novo’s KL Noir series that threatens to spoil at least one local market. The Philippines now has the best of both local and global with the appearance of a local printing of Manila Noir, edited by Jessica Hagedorn, and published by Anvil.
