Perspectives in the Arts and Humanities Asia
Abstract
Excerpt: Perhaps the best word to describe the tenor of this collection of short stories by Nikki Alfar is “play.” As a member of the “speculative fiction movement” (vii), she is expected to show some form of whimsy in her work, although not all authors of speculative fiction embrace it with enthusiasm. It would also be a fair expectation that she should showcase pieces that would support the “movement” that she belongs to. Her book meets both expectations and does so while tackling issues such as gender and postcoloniality.
