Abstract
Excerpt: Flor Marie “Neni” Sta. Romana-Cruz is an award-winning children’s book writer, journalist, educator, and book critic. Her works include Why the Piña Has a Hundred Eyes and Other Classic Philippine Folk Tales about Fruits, winner of the 1993 National Book Award for Children’s Literature and the biography Gabriela Silang, which received a National Book Award citation for excellence in 1992. She was the head of the Children’s Media Center of International School Manila, a trustee of the Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation, and chair of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People. Neni is currently a member of the Eggie Apostol Foundation, a trustee of Teach for the Philippines, and chair of the National Book Development Board.
