Abstract
The paper articulates and advances a pneumatological hermeneutic to Vatican II’s renewed ecclesiology. Recognizing both the legacy and the limits of the Council’s ecclesiology in the Spirit, the paper explores two key ecclesiological insights that Vatican II has decisively retrieved: namely, the sensus fidelium and synodality. While the former is explicitly treated in the conciliar texts, and the latter is an implicit dimension of the Council, the paper argues that both are crucial in the reception of Vatican II’s pneumatological ecclesiology.
