Abstract
This paper explores Xavier Zubiri’s concept of "sentient intelligence," which distinguishes humans from animals. This intelligence arises from a psycho-organic process: the genetic growth of nerve cells, nervous system centralization, and an excess of short-axon neurons that structures the faculty of sensibility with a latent intelligence. Consequently, sentient intelligence enables humans to apprehend things as realities. Zubiri, a highly influential figure among Spanish-speaking intellectuals, successfully reformulates classical metaphysics to align with contemporary science. Catalan’s insightful essay ultimately provides readers with a valuable glimpse into Zubiri’s philosophical originality.
