Abstract

The 500th anniversary of Philippine Christianity offers gratitude for the Spanish missionaries who introduced the faith, yet highlights the urgent need to nurture this heritage toward works of love and justice. As Moses Jarvis R. Catan’s essay suggests, the effective inculcation of Gospel values remains incomplete after five centuries. Facing modern challenges like secularization and declining faith among youth, the Church must embark on a New Evangelization. This contemporary mission demands a proactive role for the laity, along with innovative approaches and creative tools, to ensure the Christian faith matures and actively transforms contemporary Philippine society.
