Abstract
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines faces a rapidly accelerating HIV epidemic. According to James McTavish’s data from 1984 to 2019, cumulative infections reached 69,512, predominantly affecting males. While heterosexual contact previously dominated transmission, males who have sex with males (MSM)—particularly young men and adolescents—are now the highest-risk group. This shift is partially linked to the country’s high cultural acceptance of homosexuality. Consequently, this crisis presents a major challenge for the local Church to effectively communicate its moral teachings, specifically distinguishing homosexual orientation, which may not be the fault of a person, and homosexual acts, which are sinful.
