Abstract
In celebration of Pope St. Paul VI’s 2018 canonization, James H. Kroeger, M.M. revisits the landmark apostolic exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi. Emerging from the 1974 International Synod on Evangelization, this document provides a holistic, integral understanding of evangelization and establishes essential theological principles for credible Christian witness. Kroeger highlights Paul VI’s unique genius in beautifully balancing and integrating the diverse elements of the evangelization process. Ultimately, this foundational text has profoundly shaped the contemporary mission of the Church, serving as a magna carta that directly inspired the subsequent missionary and reform agendas of both Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Francis.
