Abstract
Leo-Martin Angelo R. Ocampo discusses how evolving internet and social media technologies can act as either a bridge or a barrier to a culture of communion. He traces digital progression from Web 1.0 to Web 4.0, which envisions an increasing symbiosis between humans and cloud-based computers. However, despite enhancing global interconnectivity, these cybertechnologies generate serious issues, including internet addiction, "fake news," cyberbullying, and data theft. Comparing the internet to a two-edged sword, Ocampo stresses its deeply ambivalent character. Ultimately, the challenge is to strategically harness its massive potential so that technology serves as a bridge rather than a barrier.
