Abstract

In her essay, Miriam R. Alejandrino examines the Hebrew term gibbôr to identify and describe female heroines (gibbôr) within the Deuteronomistic History. Despite the strong patriarchal culture surrounding these sacred texts, Alejandrino highlights figures like Rahab, Deborah, Jael, Hannah, Michal, Abigail, Huldah, and an unnamed woman as heroic. These individuals risked their lives and made vital sacrifices for the well-being of God's chosen people and the nation. Ultimately, these biblical narratives bear witness to the significant, active role that women play in fulfilling the divine plan for humanity.
