Abstract
This article explores the inculturated translation of theological concepts, focusing on the author’s analysis of translating "solidarity"; as pagdadamayan in the Filipino version of Laudato Si’. Ocampo establishes a dynamic equivalence between the terms by tracing the development of solidarity within Catholic Social Teaching, exploring the cultural value of pagdadamayan in Filipino tradition, and highlighting their distinct points of convergence. Combining theology and cultural studies, his interdisciplinary research provides a robust framework and model for translating ecclesiastical texts into local contexts. This methodology is further evidenced by Ocampo's pioneering series of scholarly Filipino translations of major Church documents, including Laudato Si’ (2015), Amoris Laetitia (2016), Misericordia et Misera (2017), and Pope Francis’s book, Ang Pangalan ng Diyos ay Awa (2018).
