Abstract

Ang kuwentong ito ay lumalawak na gunitang nagsisilbing pinto ng awtor sa isang bahagi ng kaniyang nakaraan. Sa paggalugad sa nagdaan, tinatangka ng kuwentong maghabi ng naratibo mula sa pira-pirasong alaala. Ginamit ang salitang “lumalawak” dahil hindi matatapos ang kuwento, patuloy itong hahaba sa bawat pagtatangka ng pagsusulat. Ang balangkas ng kuwento ay sumusunod sa sinabi ni Craik at Jacoby (2023) na ang pagbubuo ng alaala ay nakadepende sa kalagayan ng isip ng nagbabalik-tanaw. May mga bahagi ng kuwentong isinulat ng awtor noong nasa ibang bansa pa siya at may ilang bahagi na naisulat ilang linggo matapos siyang makauwi sa Pilipinas. Ang kuwentong ito ay tangka ng awtor na harapin ang sala-salabid na emosyon, ang hanapin ang sagot sa mga tanong na mahirap sagutin habang malayo sa sariling bansa at mga mahal sa buhay.

English Abstract

This story is an ever-expanding memory that serves as a doorway to the author’s past. In this exploration of the past, the story attempts to weave narratives from patches of memories. The use of “ever-expanding” reflects the story’s continual growth with each rewriting. The story’s framework aligns with Craik and Jacoby’s (2023) description of how memory construction depends on the person’s mental disposition. Parts of the story were written when the author was living abroad and there are parts written a few weeks after the author returned to the Philippines. This story is the author’s attempt to confront entangled emotions, to find an answer to questions that are hard to answer in the absence of home and being away from loved ones.
