Abstract
This chapter focuses on evangelical discourse in the Philippines surrounding the SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression) Equality Bill. For evangelical Christians, the proposed legislation is both a threat to their religion and to the nation itself. As a result, LGBTQ+ people are rendered as second-class citizens with fewer rights and legal protections. The chapter shows how religious discourses have affected the passage of the SOGIE Equality Bill and impacted LGBTQ+ people's human rights.
