Abstract
The progression of sustainability strategies within Philippine higher education institutions has been marked by significant policy developments and institutional initiatives. The integration of sustainability into education in the Philippines commenced in the mid-1970s with Presidential Decrees 1121 and 1152, mandating the then Department of Education, Culture and Sports to incorporate environmental education across all educational levels. This chapter looks at networks of universities on socioecological transitions that Ateneo de Manila University is part of in various capacities. The ASEAN University Network (AUN) on Ecological Education and Culture is one of the 19 thematic networks of AUN, the regional mother organization working with ASEAN. Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research is a network of universities and academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region that focuses on integrating sustainable development into postgraduate curricula. © ISTE Ltd 2026.
