Abstract

This research work explores the Normativity of the Future, a contemporary biblical interpretative approach, to help enrich the way Scripture is used and interpreted in Christian morality in religious education in the Philippines today. The normativity of the future is a way of understanding Scripture that focuses on the ability of the sacred texts to project God’s vision for the salvation of the world. God’s vision encourages and guides the Christian moral life of Filipino high school students by orienting them to pursue God’s dream for all creation to experience flourishing and fulfillment. Taking into account the developments in the use and interpretation of Scripture in moral theology, the nature and purpose of Scripture, the teaching of the Christian morality in religious education, and the experiences of the contemporary young Filipino students, this research work offers practical steps and principles using the Normativity of the Future in interpreting the Scripture in teaching Christian morality in religious education in the Philippines.
