Abstract
This research study examined and compared the perceptions of the school personnel in three Franciscan schools on Franciscan vision, pedagogical mediations, and agents of education. These three Franciscan educational components were discussed in the document Go and Teach: General Guidelines for Franciscan Education. Released in 2009 by the General Secretariat for Evangelization of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM), the document is intended to strengthen Franciscan education and direct schools to be in line with Franciscan charism.
This descriptive research study aimed to support and contribute to the initiative of the OFM General Governance to improve its education ministry. In particular, it aimed to be of help to the Philippine Province of San Pedro Bautista (PPSPB) in providing quality education based on the goals of Catholic education and rooted on Franciscan charism.
The school administrators, teachers and non-teaching personnel in three Franciscan schools in Metro Manila were the research participants. Their perceptions on the three Franciscan educational components were measured by the researcher formulated instrument called Survey on Franciscan Educational Components (SFEC). The SFEC used a 5-point Likert scale and had two parts; part I contained twenty items while part II had three open-ended questions. The SFEC was conducted online using Google Forms. The Mean, Standard Deviation and One-Way ANOVA were used for the statistical analysis of data.
As a result of the study, the perceptions of the school personnel in the three Franciscan schools were similar regarding Franciscan vision and agents of education. However, they differed in their perception regarding pedagogical mediations. Implications were also drawn from the findings to enhance the implementation of the Go and Teach: General Guidelines for Franciscan Education in the Philippine context.
