Abstract
Have you heard of spinning, settling, and splitting? Spinning refers to employees wasting their effort and talent on tasks that may not matter much to them. On the other hand, settling pertains to employees who are not dissatisfied enough to make a break but lack full commitment or engagement. Finally, splitting occurs when employees have far more misgivings about their organization and choose not to stick around for potential changes in the organization. Spinning, settling, and splitting are behaviors that describe a disengaged employee. HR is often tasked with finding strategies to deter disengagement and create and maintain employee engagement in the workplace. This chapter focuses on how engagement can be nurtured and emphasizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in sustaining engagement among members of an organization.
