Abstract
This study examines the experiences of twenty-three small and medium-sized family businesses in the Philippines in their efforts at professionalizing their organizations. Interviews with key leaders reveal various drivers, barriers, methods and difficulties in the professionalization of family businesses. Respondents also cite many positive outcomes for both family members and the organization. A model is created to represent the experiences of these family businesses in their journey towards professionalization.
