Abstract
These five poems are from Michael M. Coroza's second book of poems, Mga Lagot na Liwanag (Severed Lights), which was published in 2002 by the University of Santo Tomas Publishing House. Before it came out as a book, the original slimmer collection won first prize in the Filipino Poetry Category of the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2001. The book, on the other hand, was a finalist in the Poetry Category of the 2003 National Book Awards of the Manila Critics' Circle. These five poems were personally chosen by the poet to represent him in the English speaking world. The translators are his friends, who are themselves distinguished Filipino poets in English--Marne L. Kilates, D.M. Reyes, and Mikael De Lara Co.
