Abstract
This research reports initial results from the synthesis of surface deposited gold nanoparticle on polydimethylsiloxane composite (sAuNP – PDMS) films. Gold nanoparticles were deposited on the top surface of PDMS film resulting in a visible change in the transparency of the polymer substrate. Absorbance, transmission and fluorescence spectra from the resulting sAuNP-PDMS composite films were obtained and compared with that of pure PDMS and the colloidal gold solutions from which the nanoparticles were sourced. Results show that the absorbance and transmission properties of the resulting film are significantly different from its parent materials. The sAuNP-PDMS film is being explored for possible applications as a biosensor device.
