Abstract

This qualitative case study explored the experiences of seven Filipino mid-level managers in remote learning and development. It focused on how managers adjusted to remote and hybrid work, and how digital tools, communication demands, and organizational support affected their growth as leaders. Through a thematic analysis patterned after Braun and Clark’s framework, it was found that remote work offered greater flexibility and convenience. Still, it also led to a heavier workload and constant pressure to stay online, often resulting in stress, fatigue, and blurred work-life boundaries. Many managers had to learn through trial and error, as formal training and structured support were usually lacking. Despite these challenges, managers relied on their personal leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and consistent communication to manage their teams and support employee development. For remote work to be truly effective, organizations must act more intentionally by establishing clear communication rules, promoting peer learning, mentoring systems, and respecting boundaries between work and personal time.
