Abstract
Food safety farm-to-fork model compliance to good aquaculture practices (GAqP) of Filipino shellfish farmers placed a special consideration in the validation and reliability of the developed survey tool that consisted of 11 sections of GAqP provisions based on Philippine National Standards 207:2017 and CXS 52-2003 standards. Validation [content validity index (CVI) and impact factor (IF)] and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha) included pre-testing (item difficulty and discrimination index) (n = 7 shellfish farmers; n = 7 technical personnel on fisheries), validation (n = 30 shellfish farmers and five experts), and pilot testing (n = 30 shellfish farmers) to measure the reliability. Pre-testing results show that the majority of the survey items were too easy (75%) and corresponded to low discrimination power (77%); thus, the tool was revised, and acceptable statistical criteria for validity (CVI = 0.88; IF = 2.629) and reliability (α =0.933) were established. The developed survey tool has demonstrated its potential to gather valuable baseline data on aquaculture practices in shellfish farming. This data is critical for shaping future programs and policies to improve the food safety and quality of shellfish production in the country.
