Abstract
Excerpt: Political violence and repression are major themes tying together the contents of this issue. In our first article, Magid Shihade offers a polemic in defense of secularism in the occupied territories of Palestine. We in Social Transformations are proud to publish this article from an engaged intellectual who clear-sightedly charts a course that rejects both the capitalist modernity of the West and the conservatism of radical Islamism. We hope shedding a light on the Palestinian conflict from this unique perspective encourages further South to South dialogue.
