Abstract
This article argues that calls to make synodality our mode of being the Catholic community will come to nothing unless we find ways to help ordinary people feel their lives matter: that in their own way they are called to contribute to the reign of God in their street, their family, their professional life. Prioritizing “in church” roles as the main expression of this movement will not activate a renewed sense of every baptized person's call. The survival of Synodality will stand or fall depending on whether or not everyday Catholics feel it touches their lives. The urgency of this challenge cannot be underestimated. Synodality is not about having more readers and acolytes. It is about helping people realise the importance of allowing their everyday lives to be transformed by a recognition that the love of God flows through them to others, because ordinary life is the stuff of authentic life and real Christianity. “Synodality is a path of spiritual renewal and structural reform that enables the Church to be more participatory and missionary so that it can walk with every man and woman, radiating the light of Christ.”1
