Abstract
According to Pope Francis, synodality is a way of walking together in faith for listening to the signs of the times and contextual realities. In his three ecclesiological metaphors—healthy decentralisation, inverted pyramid, polyhedron—are embedded the seeds of the decolonizing synodality model, namely a synodality that moves beyond colonial-era power structures, and hierarchical dominance, in a way of genuine inclusivity and equality within the Church's processes of discernment and decision-making. In this regard, the Pope invites Catholics to engage and collaborate with other Christians and people from different faith traditions and Weltanschauung or worldviews, as well as all people of good will, both those of religious faith and those without. Indonesia, with its diversity, is home to various traditions of worldviews, part of which is local wisdom. In the context of the Catholic Church in Indonesia, synodality with its three dimensions, i.e. participation, communion, and mission, will only be fruitful if, in addition to Christian values, it also takes into account local wisdom. Local wisdom becomes a medium and framework for interpreting signs of the times and guiding action to empower the Church as the agents of social and spiritual transformation for promoting synodality.
