Abstract
The Virgin Birth in Islam is not about Maryam but she was chosen by Allāh for something bigger than herself. Maryam was 'made pure' by Allah (3.42) to be the perfect receptacle of the 'Word' who is Jesus the Christ (Eisa al-Masih). Her being immaculate (pure and sinless) is not to draw attention to herself but it is about the child—Eisa (Jesus), central to Allah's divine plan.
